Children’s Ministry

Children are a very important part of our ministry at Gateway.

Our newly decorated nursery has a child friendly theme that is colorful and inviting.  The nursery has volunteers available for child care during the entire morning service for children ages newborn through 3 years of age.  Parents are kept aware of any needs that might take place during nursery time via a personal pager system.  This allows nursery volunteers to contact parents discreetly and personally.

Older children are able to be a part of the worship service before attending a class that is geared for their level of understanding.  During our coffee break children are divided up into four different age groups:  Preschool (ages 3 & 4), Early elementary (Kindergarten – 2nd grade), Elementary (3rd & 4th grade), and Upper elementary (5th & 6th grade).  Each group has a Bible story, games, crafts, music, and/or discussion time.

Awana is an amazing program for children ages 3 years through 6th grade.  We meet on Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 8:00pm each week.  This year Awana starts on September 13th.  We have approximately 200 children involved in memorizing scripture, learning the Bible, playing games, earning prizes, but most of all learning how to be spiritually strong and follow Jesus Christ.

Our Awana program is also involved in sponsoring Awana International, collecting food for those less fortunate, Grand Prix race, Awana Games, Sparks-o-rama, and Honor Camp.  The program is broken down into three groups:  Cubbies (ages 3 & 4 years), Sparks (Kindergarten – 2nd grade), and Truth and Training or T&T (3rd – 6th grade).  Each Tuesday night is divided into three parts, handbook time, lesson time, and game time.  The program runs from September to May each year and has approximately 40 volunteer workers to help provide a loving and learning environment.  All our volunteers must be clear by the Department of Justice before serving in our children’s ministry.
